One Week Grocery List for 2 People, Under $100!

It has been a while. Like a long while. I’ve been busy with school, life, and overall just never really wanted to maintain my blog while I had free time after classes. Not that it’s a bad thing, but that is why I’ve been so absent from this space for a while. BUT! I’m back (and on winter break), so here it goes!

The menu for this week:

This week, I went grocery shopping at Kroger. I find that they always have the best prices, especially when you shop using your Kroger plus card (totally free to sign up). You get discounts etc, and you get points to use for gas! There isn’t a Kroger gas station near me, but I’m actually able to use the points at the Shell station near the Kroger, so it’s no biggie at all.

Here’s what you’ll need for each meal, as well as the prices for each product:

Chicken or Black Bean Burrito:

  • 4 large tortillas $1.16
  • Chicken (1/2 lb) $2.49
  • 2 cans of black beans $1.40
  • 1/2 bag of rice $.75
  • Dairy-free cheese $1.50
  • Red Onion $.39
  • Avocado $1
  • Salsa $1.50

Total Cost: $10.19 (or $2.54 per meal per person)

Falafel Salad (recipe from Minimalist Baker):

  • For the Falafel
    • 1 can of chickpeas $.69
    • 1/2 head of parsley $.50
    • 4 cloves of garlic $.25
    • 2 shallots $1
    • Sesame seeds $1.49
    • AP flour $.75
  • For the Salad:
    • Arugula $3.49
    • Grape tomatoes $1
    • Cucumber $.99
    • Onion $.39
    • 1/2 bag of rice $.75
    • Teta tahini dressing $4.19

Total Cost: $15.49 (or $3.87 per meal per person)

BBQ Chicken or Chick’n Wrap:

  • 4 lage tortillas $1.16
  • Chicken (1/2 lb) $2.49
  • Gardein chick’n $4.49
  • Avocado $1
  • BBQ sauce (up to you which you choose!) $2
  • Onion $.39
  • Dairy-free cheese $1.50

Total Cost: $13.03 (or $3.25 per meal per person)

Fish Tacos:

  • 4 Fillets of tilapia $12.10
  • Small tortillas (corn is usually cheaper) $1.10
  • Slaw of your choosing (I prefer Taylor Farms) $3.30
  • Avocado $1
  • Salsa $1.50

Total Cost: $19 (or $4.75 per meal per person)

Shrimp Pasta (recipe from Binging with Babish, I’m doubling the recipe and subbing cashew cream for coconut cream):

  • Lentil pasta $2.39
  • Shrimp (1 lb) $7.99
  • 1 shallot $.50
  • 4 cloves of garlic $.25
  • Grape tomatoes $.99
  • 1/2 head of parsley $.50
  • 1 can of coconut cream $1.99

Total Cost: $14.61 (or $3.65 per meal per person)

Latke Lox Benedict (made with a dairy-free hollandaise sauce found on Food):

  • Latke mix $3.69
  • Lox $3.50 (on sale, typically $5)
  • Plant-based butter $3.39
  • Eggs $.75
  • Soy milk $2.29
  • Lemon $.79

Total Cost: $14.41 (or $3.60 per meal per person)

Breakfast Pizza (pizza crust is homemade using the recipe on the back of the yeast packet):

  • Yeast $.79
  • Dairy-free cheese $1.50
  • Eggs $.75
  • Vegan sausage crumbles $3.39
  • Tomato sauce $2
  • AP flour $.75

Total Cost: $9.18 (or $2.29 per meal per person)

Total Cost for Groceries: $95.91

Now some caveats. This list assumes that you have the necessary seasoning and oils. There is of course the possibility that you don’t have them, and that you will need to buy them. I’d say it would probably add ~$5-6 to your list if you have to go that route.

Also, this list doesn’t take into account BREAKFAST! It is totally up to you how you want to eat your breakfast. I personally spent an extra $5 buying extra eggs for my boyfriend as well as a box of cereal for myself (as I did account for soy milk in the grocery list already).
